Introduction of the center
Endocrinology and Metabolism Research Institute has made an important contribution to the production of medical sciences in the country by having the necessary facilities and infrastructure and benefiting from experienced personnel and researchers, part of which has been in the field of developing knowledge and technologies of stem cells and regenerative medicine. Benefiting from various research centers in the field of endocrinology and metabolism, attracting related faculty members, especially basic science researchers, attracting participation from other fields of medical and technical-engineering sciences, publishing numerous articles, developing treatment protocols, training graduates in the fields different by focusing on new sciences and technologies, patenting patents and new scientific ideas, allocating significant financial resources to basic and applied science research, creating various laboratory spaces and facilities (including cell culture laboratory, cell and tissue processing cleanrooms , Genetics Laboratory, Metabolomics Laboratory, Hormonology Laboratory, Biosensor Laboratory and Biobank) shows the capability and determination of the research institute to enter the field of modern sciences and technologies. Some of these measures have led to the first cell therapy trials in the country. Among them was the establishment of the first pancreatic islet isolation laboratory by the Endocrine and Metabolism Research Institute in collaboration with the University of British Columbia (Canada) in 1386 and the first successful pancreatic islet transplant (2010) in the country.
Also, this research institute, in cooperation with international scientists, for the first time carried out the cell therapy project with embryonic stem cells in diabetes and a number of incurable diseases. These experiences lead to the formation of standard work spaces (including cleanrooms for the production of cellular products, a cellular-molecular laboratory and a cell therapy clinic), a network for donating and providing legally aborted embryos, producing different cell lines with clinical applicability. , recruitment and training of clinical and basic science experts in this field, the establishment of a bank of embryonic cells and the creation of a registry system for patients who are candidates for cell therapy.
According to these achievements, in 2016, this research institute has decided to establish a cell therapy and regenerative medicine research center as one of the centers of the Endocrine and Metabolism Research Institute in order to make the most of the existing capabilities and capacities to provide access to patients. to cell therapy and regenerative medicine products and to have quantitative and qualitative development of this technology in the country. This center aims to attract the participation of other stakeholders, focus on attracting the financial resources needed to turn the idea into a product, obtain the country's scientific authority in this field, provide new treatment methods to patients and provide the basis for the development of business and trade in this sector. has placed Currently, this research center has the approval in principle of the Ministry of Health's Extension Council.
